About

I am a teacher who loves literature because it is a living record of inwardness, the life of the mind, spirit, heart, and soul. Through the writer’s lens and craft,  love of language and narrative, a literary text reflects all the great questions, mysteries, complexities, ambiguities, and enduring understandings about human experience. I view the humanities as a crucible that offers astute readers an opportunity for reflection and interpretation, by winnowing through the collective ethical and existential wisdom of human experience.

In a number of institutional settings, I have taught every grade from 2nd to graduate school.  I am committed to instructional design grounded in joyful, rigorous learning.  A master teacher, I have received an Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Chicago, a NYC Blackboard Award for Excellence, and this blog has been cited in Education Week’s column about “impact players” in independent schools.  In my roles as teacher, colleague, mother, sister, friend, mentor, stargazer, cyclist, rower, I love the hybrid challenge of individualism and collaboration — balancing versatility, precision, and sensitivity to change in conditions from all directions, which is much like navigating life in schools and in a changing world.
